Bicentenary Pipeband Championship
Among the events which took place was the pipe band competition which is now the only one that has continued each year since the bi-centenary. |
In 2009 the event was elevated to championship status and is now known as the Bicentenary Pipeband Championships. |
Having spent my early years in this area and, after retiring from the regular Army, returning here, it is a tremendous pleasure to be part of such an important event in the piping calendar. I give my warmest thanks and congratulations to the organisers for the enormous amount of work they have given without which today's Championships could not have happened. |

In 2001, the year of Helensburgh’s Bi-Centenary several local groups were asked to organise an event which would meet the criteria for the Bi-Centenary grant monies provided by Argyll & Bute Council and for that event to continue in the years after the Bi-centenary.
The event has developed and grown over the years and now has approximately 30 pipe band performances and between 100-200 highland dancers each year.
'I am honoured to have been invited to be the Chieftain of the 2012 Helensburgh Bicentenary Pipe Band Championships.
